My Hiking Holiday Based in the Town of Kas in Turkey!

Kas Turkey Hiking Holiday Description
This Hiking Holiday Kas Turkey was a week long. Kas is a charming port town in the middle of the historic Lycian Region on the south west coast of Turkey. Kas is a hidden treasure for those who want to get away from mass tourism and take a relaxing holiday discovering several unspoiled areas.
Kas was built on the site of the ancient city named Antiphellos. The only signs of this Lycian city these days are rock-cut tombs and sarcophagi. The Taurus Mountains surround this lovely town on three sides and continued on the fourth side to the great depths of the Mediterranean Sea. This is a rocky area which helps to keep the bay crystal clear and a beautiful deep blue eyed colour and is the reason why this part of the Mediterranean Sea is called the Turquoise Coast.
Kas was about 2 hours 30 minutes by coach transfer from Dalaman airport and we stayed in a small, friendly, family run hotel within Kas. The town was filled with a cluster of houses surrounding the main street together with teahouses where tourists and fishermen go to relax. We had our first evening meal at our hotel and the rest were taken in local restaurants, of which there was a good choice and all of which served great food.
Hikes took us through olive groves; over a fertile plain; over attractive hillsides and through a charming coastal town with a pretty harbour. We enjoyed fabulous bird’s eye views over the blue bays, inlets and islands together with spectacular panoramic views of the stunning coastline.
Highlights included a visit to the ruined city of Arycanda and our last day offered the chance to paddle over the sunken city of Kekova, with some fantastic views along the way. However, due to strong weather conditions, we had to take a beautiful boat ride instead. We were not disappointed by the last minute change of plans.
We had a day off hiking to do as we pleased. There was a chance to go swimming, scuba diving, paragliding or hire a water taxi to take a relaxing cruise to a favourite bay, cave or beach. There were also daily excursions by boat available to the Greek island Katellorizon, only 3 miles away, and also to another historic city from Lycian Civilization named Kekova Island. However, we decided to just relax in the hotel and walk around the village at a leisurely pace.
This hiking holiday was over 8 days, including 2 days travel, with 4 days of hiking at a moderate level, a day off and a day on the water, either kayaking or a boat trip. The hiking group was small and friendly which meant that everyone had the chance to get to socialise with each other.
