Three Important Military Gear For Long Grueling Journeys

Hiking, Walking, Backpacking - Three Important Military Gear For Long Grueling Journeys

Is Your Hiking Gear Up To TheTask?

People who appreciate the outdoors don’t mind roughing it out in the wind, rain and mud. I for one enjoy long hiking trips which are challenging. I’ve had my share of cuts and damaged bones but you simply cannot buy these sort of experiences. No amount of video war games can harden somebody up like a good two week hike in a tropical jungle can.

The first thing you have to do is make sure you are fit enough to go the distance. Tropical rain forests can drain energy levels without effort, particularly if it rains. Hiking up a two hundred meter slope in the wet can occasionally feel just like a futile effort.

The next thing you have to guarantee is that the gear you have with you is up to the task. For this reason, I put my faith in military gear.

Military Gear – Army Ponchos

As mentioned earlier, a tropical rainforest could be a extremely wet place to be dependent on the season. Even in the dry season, it rains once or more a week. Although I love to rough it out, it is usually better to keep as dry as practical. For this purpose, I never go on a trip without my faithful army ponchos. This tactical military gear is on always the 1st on my list.

Army ponchos are superb because they are tear resistant and are designed to keep the body dry and warm in wet weather. You can forget about those two dollar plastic ponchos. They wouldn’t last more than 10 minutes among the thorns, branches and other sharp objects out there.

Army grade ponchos don’t truly cost that much but they last a pretty long time and is simple to care for and store.

Military Gear – Backpacks

Another essential military gear is my army backpack. It is not just any backpack, though. This one is a modular model which means I can simply attach stuff to it if I need to. I often attach a reservoir or a hydration system, medical kit and a rugged portable computer bag to my backpack on actually long trips.

I’ll attach extra equipment and pouches thanks to the Chums webbing on the surface of the backpack. Most army backpacks are so tricky they come with a lifetime guaranty.

LED Torches

Ultimately, never leave home without a good LED torch. I carry three types of torches on my journeys. A head mounted one for spelunking, a strong handheld one which can be used as a lamp and features a built-in compass, and a self-powered one, in case all of the batteries fail.

All of these torches are of tactical military gear specs, which means they are knock resistant, water resistant, awfully bright and they come with batteries possessing a 10 year life-span.

To sum up,

  • Make sure you have the appropriate gear for these challenging trips
  • Use military backpacks with modular attachments to suit your requirements
  • Expect to get wet but try to keep dry with the help of military ponchos
